Kiekert, the 160-year-old German auto supplier (latches and assemblies), has come on board as “Presenting Sponsor” of the AHA Journalism Competition. Welcome Kiekert! They are excited about being involved with this automotive heritage project and they will be able to share their heritage as well. Kiekert will be dedicating some staff time to the assembly of a gift bag for our attendees that will also hold our press kit. You may be hearing from them if you’d like something included.

We continue to offer “Category Sponsorships” within the Journalism Competition at $1,500 each. We have 10 categories honoring the stories best told with an automotive heritage connection. See details at: https://autoheritageawards.com/journalism-awards-2019/ If you’d like to be part of all that, let us know.

We just learned that friend, colleague and leader of our AHA Concept Vehicle of the Year award, Brian Baker, will wrap up his 10-day, comprehensive, Midwest tour of aviation, archeology and automotive cultural sites and events, at the Concours d’Elegance of America. This bucket-list tour includes dozens of visits to everything from the Air Show in Oshkosh with B-17 rides to race car rides at Indy to private tours at museums including the Auburn Cord Duesenberg. Great news this week: The National Automotive History Collection is available again after a remarkable recovery from the ravages of a burst sprinkler head. Little was lost because of quick thinking and laudable preparedness by the Detroit Public Library staff. You’ll still need to make arrangements ahead of time to access the collection. https://detroitpubliclibrary.org/research/national-automotive-history-collection The NAHC, as you know, uses our AHA event to present their Future Collectable Vehicle of the Year Award.

We rethought our Journalism Competition entry fee policy of charging $10 more for entries in the last 30 days. The entry fee will be $50 regardless of timing. Entry deadline: midnight, May 31st. Next year we may offer a discount for early entries. Your thoughts?

Gary and Csaba continue to recruit judges, so if you’d like to help please let us know. Even if you are an entrant, you can also be a judge. Gary and Csaba will make the assignments so there will be no conflicts of interest.

We invite individuals and organizations who share our passion for automotive history and culture to support the Automotive Heritage Awards though sponsorship from $250 to $5,000. You’ll find those details on the Website.
